What we stand for

Doing things properly is what makes a business stronger.

Not as a slogan.
As a way of operating.

DBIM was built around a simple belief: look after people, respect the planet and build businesses on sound foundations, and stronger commercial performance follows.

Why DBIM exists

Raise the standard.

We're not here simply to help businesses pass audits or produce more paperwork.

We believe that when the foundations are right, health & safety, quality, environmental management and strong leadership stop being separate compliance exercises.

They become part of building a better business.

01More efficient.
02More robust.
03More resilient.

Our values

Three words.
Real meaning.

We deliberately keep our values simple. They're not there to fill a wall or sound impressive. They describe the character we want DBIM to show in the way we investigate problems, give advice and stand alongside our clients.

01 Understand

Curiosity.

Find it.

Look beyond the obvious. Ask better questions. Understand what's really happening before deciding what needs to change.

02 Be honest

Courage.

Face it.

Be honest about what we find. Say what needs saying clearly and constructively, even when the answer is uncomfortable.

03 Commit

Loyalty.

See it through.

Stay with the people affected by the problem. Help turn what we've learned into meaningful, lasting improvement.

Curiosity Find it.
Courage Face it.
Loyalty See it through.

Values mean very little if they don't change how you behave.

Curiosity, Courage and Loyalty describe the sort of business we want DBIM to be.

Our standards are how we hold ourselves accountable to them.

If a principle doesn't influence how we advise clients, treat people, price work or make difficult decisions, it's not much of a standard.

The DBIM Standards

Standards we expect to be held to.

Curiosity, Courage and Loyalty describe the character we want DBIM to have. These standards describe what that should look like in practice. They influence how we advise, how we work and the decisions we're prepared to make.

01

Tell people what they need to hear.

Courage

Honest advice comes before an easy conversation. If we believe something needs saying, we'll say it clearly and constructively, even when the answer isn't the most comfortable one.

02

Treat a client's people and business as if they were our own.

Loyalty

Recommendations should work for the people affected by them, the operation that has to deliver them and the business paying for them. Proportionate, practical and considered.

03

Leave people more capable than we found them.

Loyalty

Good consultancy shouldn't create dependency. We share knowledge, involve your people and build capability so the business becomes stronger in its own right.

04

Consider the environmental impact. Every time.

Curiosity

Environmental performance shouldn't be considered only when it's written into a brief. If we see a relevant risk, opportunity or better way of doing something, we'll raise it.

05

Don't pull the ladder up behind us.

Loyalty

Useful knowledge shouldn't automatically stay behind closed doors. Where learning can be shared responsibly, we'll put it back into the sector and help raise standards beyond a single engagement.

06

Don't grow at the expense of people or planet.

Courage

DBIM is a commercial business and we want it to succeed. But growth isn't worth pursuing when the price is compromising the principles the business was built around.

07

Be honest, even when it costs us the work.

Courage

Sometimes the right advice won't lead to another project. Sometimes we'll tell you that you don't need us. The quality of the advice shouldn't depend on what DBIM stands to gain from it.

The important bit

Not aspirations.
Expectations.

These aren't standards we expect only from clients. They're standards clients, partners and our own people should be able to hold DBIM accountable to. If the way we behave doesn't reflect them, the words don't mean much.

Our standards

The order matters.

01 First

People.

Decisions should work for the people affected by them, not simply satisfy a requirement on paper.

→
02 Then

Planet.

Consider the wider environmental impact of the decisions we make and the way businesses operate.

→
03 Then

Profit.

Create sustainable commercial value from strong foundations, rather than compromising them.

The principle

People → Planet → Profit. In that order. Look after people, consider the wider impact and build the right foundations. Sustainable commercial performance should follow.

People aren't the obstacle to the system. They're the point.

Tell people what they need to hear.

We won't tell a client what feels comfortable simply because it's easier. Honest advice has to come before an easy conversation.

Treat the business as if it were our own.

Recommendations should make sense for the people affected by them, the operation that has to deliver them and the business paying for them.

Every engagement should leave your people more capable than we found them. We work to make ourselves less needed, not more.

Look beyond the brief.

Environmental impact doesn't disappear because nobody asked about it.

If we see a relevant environmental risk, opportunity or better way of doing something during an engagement, we'll raise it.

Don't pull up the ladder behind you.

What we learn through our work should help raise standards beyond one client. Where knowledge can be shared responsibly, we put useful insight back into the sector rather than keeping everything behind closed doors.

03 · Profit

Profit matters.
Just not at any cost.

Our position

DBIM is a commercial business and we want it to succeed. We want to grow, build a great team and create something sustainable. But commercial success shouldn't require compromising the principles the business was built around.

01

We don't grow at the expense of people or planet.

Not every piece of work is worth taking. If an opportunity fundamentally conflicts with the standards DBIM is built around, we're prepared to walk away from it.

02

We're honest, even when it costs us the work.

Sometimes the right advice is that you don't need more consultancy. The quality of the advice shouldn't depend on what DBIM stands to gain from it.

The principle

Profit is the result, not the starting point. Build the right business, treat people properly and make good decisions, and commercial success should follow.

Where we're going

We don't want to be the biggest.

We want to help define what good looks like.

DBIM's ambition is to build a small, highly capable business with a national reputation across UK industry.

A business known not simply for telling clients what a standard says, but for helping organisations genuinely reach it and demonstrating that better standards lead to stronger businesses.

What this means when you work with us.

Values matter most when you can see them in the way someone behaves. These are the standards you should be able to hold DBIM to.

01

We'll challenge you.

Because Courage sometimes means saying the uncomfortable thing.

02

We'll ask before assuming.

Because Curiosity starts with understanding what's actually happening.

03

We'll stay with difficult problems.

Because Loyalty means more than being around when things are straightforward.

04

We'll build your capability.

Success should make you stronger, not more dependent on us.

05

We'll consider the wider impact.

Good decisions should work for the business, its people and the environment.

06

We'll tell you when we're not the answer.

Taking the work isn't always the right decision, for you or for DBIM.

The DBIM standard

Find it. Face it. See it through.

Curiosity tells us to look deeper.
Courage tells us to be honest about what we find.
Loyalty means staying around to help make it better.

That's the standard we're building DBIM around.
